CULTURAL SYMBOL - KANDIYAN DANCER

In the Culturally diverse Sri Lankan culture, the upland dance tradition holds a central place. It can be called as a dance style unique to Sri Lanka. Kandiyan dancer has an important place in the tradition. It is his unique kandiyan dance outfit. The head mask is made of silver which perfectly highlights the solemnity of the dancer. Also, items such as karamalaya, top waist shape are very beautiful. Upland dances are often seen in traditional shanthikarmas and the Kohombakankariya is the main shanthi  karmaya. In kandy Asela Maha Perehera , we can see a lot of beautiful Kandiyan dancers. Upcountry dance tradition is also inherited from generation to generation. Kandiyan dancers are also seen in wedding ceremonies which are special occasions in our life. The dance is accompanied by Getaberaya drums. Along with the dance, the dancers also get a chance to showcase their technical skills. I also have a great desire for that tradition.
